My Harley Davidson

As I have said elsewhere, I love motorbikes although when I was a lot younger and still lived at home I was disuaded from having one.  I met Chris (now my husband)  when I was 24; he had ridden bikes since he was old enough to. He had a beautiful custom Harley that I fell in love with, in fact, biking was part of the deal when we got together, which suited both of us. I spent half a season riding pillion and decided that I wanted to ride my own bike.

The first bike I rode was Chris's Harley at an airfield nearby - very handy these airfields! I was terrified of dropping it (they weigh nearly a 1/4 of a ton!) and unlike most Harleys it made 90bhp and 90 ftlbs of torque; so it was no slouch.

I loved riding so borrowed a 125 and passed my test whilst looking for a suitable Harley of my own.

Chris built custom Harleys as a hobby, mostly for friends, so he could hardly decline my request to build one for me.

I found a 1982 FXR with a Shovelhead engine - quite a rare model which became even rarer once it got the chop!

I had the frame remodelled to look like an old 4-speed but still with the benefit of the rubber mounted engine.

The frame and the engine cases were powder coated in ivory with the outer covers in chrome.

The tank and mudguards were finished in pearlesecent white and pink - she looked stunning!

Starting to look like a bike - the multi-coloured spaghetti is the wiring harness being made up on the bike.
